About this journey
This full-day hike takes you deep into the Magnolia Mountain area, about a 3-hour drive from Dali.
We meet at Pushi Coffee at 9:30 AM and return around 7:30 PM.
The drive itself is part of the adventure, winding through hillsides dotted with walnut trees and passing a sign that reads 'Pink Wall'—the soil there really is pink!
Once we arrive, we enter a forest that feels forgotten by humans but alive with animals, plants, moss, and mushrooms.
The trail is not very long but goes into old-growth forest.
There are some steep sections, so if you have poor balance or low stamina, please consider carefully.
Most people with normal fitness can complete it.
Along the way, we'll pass a place called 'Maluping' (Horse Deer Flat), described on a sign as a hidden valley with clear streams, lush vegetation, and wildlife such as sambar deer, macaques, black bears, musk deer, muntjac, wild boar, clouded leopards, and red pandas.
Birds like pheasants, silver pheasants, and bamboo partridges are also common.
We'll stop for a tea break prepared by the guide.
Please bring your own packed lunch.
The guide, Yanzi, is the main leader for this route because she loves it most.
Occasionally, Xiaojing or Yang Mi will lead.
This hike runs only twice a week.

Why is it called 'Yanzi's Magnolia Mountain Hike'?
Because Yanzi is the one who most wanted to share this route.
She, along with Yang Mi, once drove here in the rain just to pick mushrooms—that's how special this place is.
The forest has a unique magic that keeps us coming back, season after season.
