Full refund for weather reasons (ask the guide to handle the cancellation operation). *Fairness principle, our cancellation policy is two-way. If we cannot go after receiving the reservation and confirming the WeChat group [except for weather reasons], we will compensate at the same ratio.
About the route: Secret mountain forests around Dali. Not fixed to one route, because I want to go to different places every week. However, every one is carefully selected by me and is a place I like.
About mushrooms: Generally, compared to Cangshan, mushrooms are abundant on deep mountain routes, and few people go there to pick them. But the growth of mushrooms is uncertain every day, and the varieties picked each time in the deep mountains are also very different. So I hope you who join the activity have an open heart.
Besides mushrooms: In each different secret place, we will also see some special plants that you don't see in ordinary mountain forests.
Activity process:
At 9:00, gather at Pushi, then take my van to the destination. It takes about 2 hours by car. After arriving, hike into the forest. The hiking time is generally no more than 20 minutes before we start picking mushrooms.
The distance for mushroom picking generally depends on personal physical strength. If tired, sit down in the forest to rest and have a picnic, while others can continue searching.
After picking mushrooms, I will explain and then bring the edible mushrooms back to the camp to cook chicken soup mushroom noodles, or have a farm meal at a farmhouse in the mountains (depending on which route we take that day).
Return to near Dali Ancient City around 18:00.
Why do a deep mountain mushroom picking experience?
Xiaojing:
This year is my fourth year picking mushrooms on Cangshan. My feelings for Cangshan and its mushrooms, from unfamiliar at first, to curious, then to liking, and now to complete understanding and familiarity. This gradual change of feeling is a bit like falling in love. Being in love with someone for four years is not easy for me, and picking mushrooms in the same place for four years also loses freshness.
I want to find back the original wonderful feeling of picking mushrooms. So this summer, I am going to break up with Cangshan and go to deep mountains beyond Cangshan to pick mushrooms for the whole summer.
In the past, because we were busy during the summer vacation and lacked manpower, the picking group could only hold one or two deep mountain mushroom picking activities after the summer vacation ended. We all cherish this activity, like a ritual about mushrooms. Everyone goes to a fresh forest with an unknown heart, finding unfamiliar and novel mushrooms.
Going deep into the mountains to pick mushrooms is like an unknown journey; every time there are big or small gains and surprises. This feeling probably comes from the "unknown."
We often pursue "familiarity" and "stability," but these two things are often what gradually make people lose their senses.

Celebrate the Torch Festival in a Nanzhao Royal Clan Village
Over the past two years, we have taken guests to celebrate the Torch Festival in Songhe Village, Eryuan. Together we slaughtered a sheep, and with the whole village, erected a huge torch in the center of the village square. Everyone made their own torches from hemp stalks, and together with the older and younger villagers, we rushed to grab the blessing baba (cakes) from the big torch, passing blessings to each other with fire. Even for me, a native Bai person, these are rare and precious traditional festival experiences. Dali has endless festivals, and I want to experience them more before they fade away. I remember the Torch Festival of my childhood: torches were no longer enough for me. Before the festival, I would tell my dad to prepare a bucket of waste engine oil and diesel, mix them together, and then I would tightly bind cotton and old cloth with rope into a ball (some kids would secretly take cotton from their quilts at home to make it). Finally, I would make an iron wire ball, soak it in the bucket of oil, and secretly take it out every day to look at it, looking forward to having a great time on the day of the Torch Festival. We would compete in the village and by the rice fields to see whose fireball or torch was more impressive. When the torches and fireballs were almost burned out, we would rush home, walk around the potted fruit trees in circles, and say blessing words, hoping they would grow even better in the coming year.
