I am Xiao Yang. In the third month after I came to Dali two years ago, I quickly opened my first bar, Shuangyan Bar, with lightning speed. From site selection to decoration to purchasing supplies, I was busy for two months and then it opened.
When I was in college, I worked part-time as a bartender for a year and a half. Back then, the first lesson in learning to mix drinks was washing glasses.
I washed glasses for seven months, during which I constantly memorized drink knowledge and took exams from the boss, and finally learned the craft.
Every time I think of a new drink, from the ingredients to the method to what glass to use, how to mix it to make it taste better, what garnish to pair, it's like completing a work. Good ideas come, and good works follow, with constant experimentation and innovation. Finally, when I think of a name and hand it to the customer, it's like back in school when exam results come out—nervous and expectant. If the customer nods and says it's good, then it counts as a satisfactory answer sheet.
Every time customers come to the bar, a few always want to give it a try, having never mixed a drink before. Their curiosity and anticipation remind me of when I first learned to mix drinks, and I often thought to myself, 'Bartenders are so cool! How great it would be if I could mix drinks as stylishly as they do!'
Time flies, and before I knew it, I had opened my own small bar, and my wish came true. So, I want to offer this special service to guests who want to experience being a bartender.
What can you experience in this activity?:
You can choose two classic cocktails according to your taste and make them yourself.
It's okay if you're a beginner; I will provide basic explanations and teaching. You can choose two different methods to mix drinks.
I can also teach you a cocktail that you can easily make at home, a home version that doesn't require professional tools.
The entire experience takes about an hour and a half.
